Leiston has a good provision of allotment gardens spread over two sites in the Town. Both sites are run by the Town Council and the waiting list is kept by the Town Clerk who will gladly add your name to the list should you wish to lease an allotment in the future. Currently, there is about a two to four year wait for anyone joining the list as the joys of allotmenteering have become quite popular in the last few years.
The allotments behind Haylings Road and Ashfield Drive are statutory allotments and benefit from heavy sandy loam soil. The larger site behind the Fire Station stretching down to Valley Road has a much lighter, free draining soil, but does not have any protected status. That site is owned by Suffolk Coastal District Council who lease it to the Town Council to manage.
Overall there are around 185 five and 10 rod plots for rent at £1.40 per rod per annum.
